Position Title: School Nurse
Reports To: Principal
Primary Function:
Provide specialized counseling and related guidance services for the normal developmental needs of all the pupils for whom he/she is responsible by providing opportunities for each to experience an accepting, non-evaluative relationship in which better understanding of himself/herself and his/her environment is acquired, and to know the relationship between them.
Requirements:
- Educational Level: RN
- Certification/Licensing: Licensure for Registered Nurse
- Proficiency Skills: Written and oral communication skills, student assessment and leadership skills, ability to deal with multiple tasks, computer competence, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Personal Skills: Pleasant personality, cooperative attitude, physical skills and stamina to perform essential duties.
General:
- Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.

Nurse:
- Conducts school health service, including physical examinations, immunizations and tests for hearing and vision.
- Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and/or dental care.
- Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on school medical matters.
- Maintains updated cumulative health records on students.
- Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
- Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
- Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health program.
- Advises modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students when necessary.
- Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Advises teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects.Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
