POSITION TITLE:  Paraprofessional

REPORTS TO:  Principal 

LOCATION:  McIntyre park Middle School

FLSA:  Non-Exempt 

WORK DAYS:  190

 

Primary Function: Assist the classroom teacher with students to complete educational activities as directed.

 

 Requirements:

  • Educational Level: two years of college credit (60 hours) or pass  paraprofessional GACE assessment
  • Certification/Licensing: Valid Paraprofessional Georgia Certificate
  • Proficiency Skills: Written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of effective instructional techniques and strategies. Demonstration of fair and equitable classroom management skills.
  • Personal skills: Pleasant personality, cooperative attitude, physical skills, ability to lift a student up to a weight of 40 LBS without assistance, ability to perform a two-person lift for students over 60 LBS (lumbar support belt required) and stamina to perform essential duties.     

       General: 

  1. Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.
  2. Demonstrates professionalism by reporting to work and assigned duties on time.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer applications as applicable to job responsibilities.    
  4. Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Act in a professional manner and maintains a professional attitude towards the public and colleagues; adheres to cultural diversity guidelines, and exhibits the fundamentals of good public/customer service.
  6. Complies with the school system, state and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics, as related to job requirements.
  7. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and material; adheres to the chain of command.
  8. Maintains a professional appearance as outlined by the local BOE policy.
  9. Maintains and improves knowledge and skills to promote proficiency in the operations of an organized, modern, updated and efficient school.
  10. Participates in professional organizations, workshops, and staff development activities and applies what is learned to the job; accepts new challenges in a professional manner.  
  11. Shows initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job responsibilities; performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.  
  12.  Exhibits time on task and a flexible, cooperative, progressive and hard-working attitude and style.  
  13. Monitors compliance with policies and laws concerning areas of responsibility.   

 

Paraprofessional:

  1. Prepares long and short-term goals for area of responsibility.
  2. Communicates vision and mission to school personnel as appropriate.
  3. Takes direction readily in a cooperative manner from the supervisor.
  4. Provides adequate supervision of students at all times.
  5. Disciplines students with fairness and equity.
  6. Assumes a leadership role in the absence of the regularly-assigned teacher.
  7. Conducts small-group and individual instruction according to supervising teacher’s lesson plans.
  8. Assists in student assessment, grading work and tests and data collection.
  9. Assists in routine record-keeping.
  10. Prepares instructional materials according to supervising teacher’s lesson plans.
  11. Locates, procures, operates and returns needed equipment.
  12. Assists in routine classroom housekeeping responsibilities.
  13. Assist with toileting, diapering food preparation, feeding, other self-help skills and delegated medical procedures as directed.
  14. Assists with the movement of students from one area of the school to another or to a specialized position.
  15. Assists with hall duty and bus loading and unloading as directed.
  16. Assists with the arrival and departure of students.
  17. Assists in ordering/inventorying classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
