Position:  Food Service Assistant

Reports to:  School Nutrition Manager

 

Primary Purpose/Function:  Assist as assigned by SNP Manager in the timely preparation, service, setup, cleanup, and other operational elements of the school nutrition program.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Prepares food according to planned menus using standardized recipes and ensures the finished product is of best quality in color, flavor, texture, appearance, and recorded temperature while assuming cleaning responsibility for preparation assignment.

 

Prepares line set-up assumes responsibility for replenishment and supply of food during service and serves food at the correct temperature in a quick and pleasant manner.

 

When assigned to the duty of cashier, counts money, makes change, and completes related reports.

 

Adheres to daily work schedules.

 

Adheres to the manager's instruction for the proper portioning of foods.

 

Records all food used from the storeroom, freezers, coolers, and other areas.

 

Stores and labels unused food properly, or disposes of it according to DHR rules

 

Assist with check-in, storage, retrieval, and unpacking of SNP items, including materials, supplies, food, etc.

 

Observes guidelines for the SNP HACCP plan for food safety and cleanliness.

 

Assist with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure adherence to standards of cleanliness and sanitation.  Performs major cleaning of refrigerators, freezers, storerooms, vent hoods, and equipment at regularly scheduled intervals as designated by the SNP Manager.

 

Attends all required in-service and training programs designated by the SNP Director, SNP Manager, Principal, and/or the Board of Education.

 

Performs others and responsibilities as assigned by SNP Manager.

 

Qualifications:

 

Must hold a high school diploma or GED.

 

Must be in general good health, physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and standing for long periods of time.  Must have an annual physical examination as directed by the SNP and comply with DHR regulations for the reporting of employee health and public safety.

 

Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions fo assignment and recipe preparation, with an aptitude for mathematical skills in money management and weight measurement.

 

Must maintain the ability to function cooperatively with SNP managers, co-workers, students, school administration, school staff, and school visitors.

 

Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, and adheres to the approved dress code.
