POSITION TITLE:   Special Education Instructional Paraprofessional

Location: Harper Elementary

FLSA: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of Special Education
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days/8hours per day

 

2 Positions available

 

Primary Function: Supervision of assigned students and assist in the facilitation of the instructional program as directed.

 

Requirements:

 

General:

  1. Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.

  3. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer applications as applicable to job responsibilities.

  8. Maintains a professional appearance as outlined by local BOE policy.
  9. Maintains and improves knowledge and skills to promote proficiency in the operations of an organized, modern, updated, and efficient school.
  10. Participates in professional organizations, workshops, and staff development activities and applies what is learned to the job; accepts new challenges in a professional manner.  
  11. Shows initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job responsibilities; performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.

Paraprofessional:

  1. Prepares long and short-term goals for area of responsibility.
  2. Communicates vision and mission to school personnel as appropriate.
  3. Takes direction readily in a cooperative manner from the supervisor.
  4. Provides adequate supervision of students at all times.
  5. Disciplines students with fairness and equity.
  6. Assumes a leadership role in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher.
  7. Conducts small-group and individual instruction according to supervising teacher’s lesson plans.
  8. Assists in student assessment, grading work and tests, and data collection.
  9. Assists in routine record-keeping.
  10. Prepares instructional materials according to supervising teacher’s lesson plans.
  11. Locates, procures, operates, and returns needed equipment.
  12. Assists in routine classroom housekeeping responsibilities.
  13. Assists in ordering/inventorying classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
